MODEM and ROUTER. A big difference..

Welcome back friends. You all must have a confusion between a MODEM and ROUTER. What is the basic difference between a modem and a router. In this blog, we will talk about it.


 

Friends the confusion between modem and router is in your mind because the modern routers we use nowadays does so many works at the same time but we believe that all of the credit is for the router machine. It gives us WiFi, it allows us to split the network, it works as a switch, the modem is inside this machine, which means that this is the only device which performs all, the works for us. But friends initially I let you know that both are two different things. MODEM is another thing, Router is another thing. If you are an old user of Internet, you may know that both of them are very different, they have other works. But modern routers available nowadays are a combination of both the devices which allows the multiple devices functionality.

MODEM(Modulator Demodulator) is a basic device whose function is to modulate and demodulate the signal. Your system(PC or smart phone) didn't understand analog signals, they understand only digital signals. Your MODEM works as a bridge between the analog and digital signal. When a signal is coming out of your system to enter the world of Internet is a digital signal but the MODEM converts it into analog so that it can travel into your broadband connection and allows the system to access the Internet. This is the only function of a MODEM.

 
A ROUTER has a very different works which is to route signals. Suppose you have multiple number of systems in your house, you are supposed to have a router so as to access the Internet in all the systems. The modern routers are basically wireless(which is not necessary, it can be wired too.) which consists of a modem inside it. The basic function of a router is to split the signals sent by the MODEM into the required number of channels so that you can use access the Internet in all your systems which may be your phone,m your laptop, your gaming console, your TV etc.

So this was the basic difference in a MODEM and a ROUTER. I hope you had understood the difference between the two devices.
